We have been assigned by one of the UK's more prestigious NHS Trusts to help them recruit a Consultant in Renal Medicine on either a Substantive or an NHS Fixed Term basis for 12 months to join their successful Medicine department. Our client's renal department consists of 1 x 28 bedded inpatient ward with 4 flexi trolleys, where the appointee will be joining an exciting opportunity at UHNM to join the dynamic team of 7 Nephrology Consultants, 2 Specialty Doctors and 12 Medics working at a Nephrology service that provides all types of dialysis both in-centre and home, transplant, CKD, home therapies, AKI and hypertension.

In addition to renal and dialysis services, our specialised services include cancer diagnosis and treatment, cardiothoracic surgery, neurosurgery, neonatal intensive care and paediatric intensive care. We are recognised for our particular expertise in trauma, respiratory conditions, spinal surgery, upper gastro-intestinal surgery, complex orthopaedic surgery, laparoscopic surgery and the management of liver conditions. The Trust has some of the most modern operating theatres in Europe.

The successful appointee will be asked to undertake various duties within the department, including:

  • Working collaboratively with the existing nephrology team to deliver a high quality and timely service to the local population.
  • An opportunity to shape and contribute to the development of the service.
  • Work closely with the current team of consultant colleagues.
  • Participate in an 1:8.5 on call rota, providing both inpatient care and outpatient care at the main site and outpatient care at the satellite units.
  • Provide clinical leadership, including all aspects of the renal service.
  • Supervise and teach junior medical staff and nurse practitioners/clinical nurse specialists.
