Salary: £30,000 per annum based on a 40 hour working week
Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:00am – 4:00pm. Some Saturday work required during busy periods - At extra pay.
About the Role:
We have a great opportunity to join our clients team at a 3.5 acre independent horticultural nursery / garden centre as an Experienced Horticulturist / Nurseryman. As an Experienced Horticulturist / Nurseryman, you will be integral to maintaining the health and vitality of plants within the nursery. You will be reporting to the Nursery Manager, your role will involve applying your core skills in horticulture and gardening to ensure optimal plant growth, including the operations of the irrigation systems, to effectively manage plant care. Join them in fostering a thriving environment for the plants and contributing to the commitment to quality horticulture.
As an Experienced Horticulturist / Nurseryman, you will play a key role in the day-to-day operations of the nursery, supporting the propagation, care, and maintenance of a wide variety of plants. You’ll be responsible for ensuring high standards in plant health and presentation, as well as assisting with customer service when required. You will be responsible for producing hanging baskets and bedding plants throughout the seasons for pub chains, local authorities, and garden centres. The main job will be watering (on a commercial level) production of plants and baskets, loading and unloading of vehicles and general nursery housekeeping.
Key Responsibilities:
- Propagation, planting, potting, pruning, and general plant care
- Monitoring plant health, pest and disease control
- Preparing plants for retail or wholesale
- Maintenance of nursery grounds and equipment
- Assisting customers with queries and plant selection
- Loading and unloading deliveries
- Maintaining a clean, organised and safe working environment
- Supporting seasonal tasks and additional weekend work as required during busy periods
Key Requirements:
- Proven experience in a horticultural or nursery environment is ESSENTIAL
- Sound plant knowledge and understanding of plant care
- Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors in all weather
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a team
- A proactive and hands-on approach with good attention to detail
- Relevant horticultural qualifications (desirable but not essential)
- Full UK driving licence (preferred)
- Saturday work required during busy season at an extra pay
