About the Department
The UK Tracking and Audit Department is tasked with the following main objectives:
- Financial Analysis, Data Insights & Client Liaison: Providing expert analysis and insights to clients based on royalty earnings and industry trends, via presentations, in person meetings and conference calls. We work closely with various internal departments to assist in financial data analysis, including VMR (Visual Media Rights), Royalties and Business Affairs. Often, this involves calculating complex royalty rate adjustments, as well as client financial analysis. Utilizing analytical tools for big data projects (such as Power BI & Redshift Query Editor within AWS) is key.
- Income Tracking: We are tasked with reviewing various income sources to identify potential underpayments across the UK market (SMP worldwide repertoire). Income tracking reviews include digital streaming, video on demand, synch licenses, TV broadcast and live performances. To identify income collection opportunities, we collaborate with various teams including VRM, A&R & worldwide SMP affiliate offices.
- Client Audit & Process Developments: In this area we lead dialogue with audit firms & client lawyers in conducting audit examinations (UK clients and Overseas clients – excluding US). We collaborate with internal departments to facilitate audits in providing requested documentation. During audit examinations, we field claims, liaise with applicable departments, deliver responses on behalf of SMP, and negotiate examinations to settlement.
About the Role
This role is a unique position for a driven individual, to delve into the inner workings of the Music Publishing industry and utilize this information to provide insights to internal stakeholders and to our clients. Collaboration will be a key aspect of the role, fostering great relationships with all parts of the business internally, as well as direct client relationship management.
Income Analysis Manager Responsibilities
- Income Analysis: Leading large data projects that require the utilization of analytical tools, utilizing data systems such as Power BI, AWS (RedShift Query Editor), Excel, SQL & Monarch. Presenting financial analysis to clients and SMP senior management.
- Visual Media Rights: Point person for VMR in the administration of UK VMR deals. Fielding VMR client queries, sourcing information and providing detailed responses.
- Client Liaison & Digital Income Specialist: Direct contact with clients & client representatives. Utilizing royalty data to answer complex client queries for all UK clients.
- Management and Training for Junior Team Members: Training new and current members of the team. Delegating work to junior members of the team and providing guidance.
- New Technology & Process Development: Leading initiatives for implementation of new approaches & technologies within UK Admin.
Who You Are:
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience working in Music Publishing, Performing Rights, Record Label, Music Licensing, Film & TV or related music industry role.
- Strong communication skills, verbal and written.
- Advanced Computer literacy – Advance Excel, Power Query, Power BI.
- Ability and drive to learn advanced analytical tools (such as AWS Redshift Query Editor).
- Possess a good understanding of music publishing, copyright and royalty processes.
- Good understanding of collection society licensing, operations and royalty distributions.
- Aptitude for working with numerical data & big datasets.
- Attention to detail, high level of accuracy.
- Collaborative mind-set with excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to mentor and train new members of staff.
- Ability to work under pressure and deliver to agreed deadlines.
