We have a specific opportunity for an experienced EPC project manager to join our team, working on a variety of transmission & distribution projects across all voltage ranges across the UK. This role will head up our project execution function, initially establishing the Burns & McDonnell project execution systems and process in the UK, building on the strong capability from the US.
The role will be responsible for managing our supply chain partners and supporting the front-end work winning activity as well as overseeing the project delivery on site through our construction and delivery supply chain partners. We are addressing projects across the energy spectrum, encompassing substations, overhead and underground systems, and smart networks as the UK expands investment and technology to support distributed energy and a shift to electric vehicles. This role will be a key part of our UK team, bringing experience in managing the execution of projects for TNO’s, DNO’s and Private Developers.
Key tasks and responsibilities:
- Lead on all aspects of safety and CDM compliance and understanding for EPC projects in your portfolio.
- Manage and coordinate all aspects of project execution for Transmission & Distribution EPC projects across the UK.
- Responsible for the profit and loss of individual projects, the successful completion of projects within specified dates, and establishing and maintaining a professional and satisfactory relationship with the client, contractors and project stakeholders.
- Lead the preparation of EPC proposals, presentations, and contract negotiations.
- Provide overall project management of EPC projects from concept to completion including coordinating the work of the support teams in estimating, engineering and procurement.
- Lead on value engineering and constructability reviews, provide construction management oversight including project controls.
- Drive project schedules, manage scope, and control project costs.
- Lead project resourcing and contractor and supply chain management.
- Manage internal project financials, resourcing, legal coordination, risk management.
- Serve as primary point of contact with clients regarding all aspects of the Burns & McDonnell project delivery.
- Develop and implement UK specific project policies and procedures, project controls systems and develop the project execution plan using the core business as a baseline.
- Confirm deliverables and services are being provided to client’s satisfaction.
- Report regularly on progress, cost and schedule, procurement, safety, environmental, other risk and any issues requiring office support.
- Other duties, as assigned.
Functional responsibilities:
- Report to the Construction Director in the UK.
- Lead and oversee all aspects of project execution under your portfolio in the UK.
- Help to build a world class project management capability in UKO and assist to recruit project staff as we grow the business.
- Develop bid stage technical solutions with partners and engineering team.
- Interact in a professional manner with clients and colleagues to achieve project objectives.
- Able to manage multiple projects and conflicting deadlines.
- Will recognise the requirement and have the flexibility to meet the needs of a rapidly growing business.
- Able to work autonomously and as part of a project team.
- Ongoing development of industry relationships to assist with future project delivery, development of future project opportunities, and Burns & McDonnell brand recognition.
- Personal professional development and partaking in professional bodies and industry groups.
- Mentoring of others within the team.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution. Educational requirement may be substituted with equivalent years of experience.
- Minimum of 10 years of transmission and/or distribution project experience with at least 7 years related project management experience.
- Relevant Professional Qualification / Accreditation.
- Excellent written & verbal communication skills and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to travel.
- IT literate, with good knowledge of using Microsoft Office applications.
- Membership of relevant industry body including professional registration preferred, e.g. The IET, ICE, IMECHE.
