Join a globally renowned technology leader in North Somerset as an Associate Principal Mechanical Engineer and lead innovative mechanical design solutions for state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment. Reporting to the Mechanical Design Engineering Manager, you will oversee a talented team of engineers, managing projects from concept through to customer commissioning and field trials. This role offers the chance to deliver safe, compliant, and high-quality solutions on time and within budget, working closely with cross-functional teams, including project managers, manufacturing, service, and customer representatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and inspire a team of approximately six mechanical engineers, fostering collaboration, setting clear objectives, and holding regular 1:1 meetings to ensure project success.
- Champion best-practice mechanical engineering to optimise project delivery in terms of time, cost, quality, and compliance, ensuring robust technical governance for safety and reliability.
- Allocate and manage work packages across cross-functional teams, guiding projects through to production and completion.
- Ensure designs meet stakeholder requirements and comply with relevant regulations, directives, and standards.
- Mentor engineers, supporting their professional development, including training and pathways to professional registration.

Qualifications & Certifications

- Accreditation or formal qualifications in Functional Safety.
Experience
- Extensive mechanical engineering and design experience in a relevant industry (Essential).
- Strong knowledge of product safety and compliance in regulated environments, with familiarity with standards such as EN 61511 and safety/design review methods (e.g., PHA, HAZOP, LOPA, FMEA).
- Proven expertise across the full product lifecycle, from concept to production.
- Commitment to continuous professional development through training and other opportunities.
- Proficiency in design for manufacture, cost, assembly, maintainability, and related principles.
