About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Civil Design Engineer to join a dynamic and growing team, delivering critical mainline rehabilitation projects for a major utilities organisation, across the midlands. You’ll play a pivotal role in the design and technical leadership of key infrastructure renewal schemes — from feasibility through to detailed design — ensuring network resilience, environmental compliance, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and produce detailed civil designs for the rehabilitation of water and wastewater mainlines.
  • Prepare design calculations, drawings, technical specifications, and risk assessments.
  • Support client engagement with Severn Trent and other key stakeholders, ensuring solutions meet operational and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams including geotechnical, hydraulic, and construction specialists.
  • Contribute to project planning, cost estimation, and programme delivery in line with AMP cycles and framework agreements.
  • Champion innovative, sustainable, and low-carbon design practices.
  • Provide mentorship to junior engineers and technicians.

Candidate requirements:

  • Degree-qualified in Civil Engineering (or equivalent); working towards or holding CEng or IEng status desirable.
  • Strong background in water sector projects, ideally with direct experience of mainline rehabilitation and trenchless technologies (e.g., CIPP lining, pipe bursting, sliplining).
  • Proficient with civil engineering design software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroDrainage/InfoDrainage, or similar).
  • Excellent understanding of CDM Regulations, design risk management, and UKWIR standards.
  • Proven ability to deliver high-quality design outputs under tight deadlines.
  • Confident communicator with excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive attitude.

What benefits are there?

  • Work on flagship rehabilitation programmes that directly impact millions of customers.
  • Join a forward-thinking company committed to innovation, collaboration, and your professional development.
  • Enjoy flexible working arrangements (hybrid working).
