The British flower market is worth £1.2bn and MM Flowers supplies fresh cut flowers and bouquets to the U.K.’s and Europe’s leading flower retailers. We grow and source the highest quality and most beautiful blooms across the world, delivering colour, passion and inspiration through breath-taking blooms.

Established in 2007, MM Flowers has grown exponentially every year and is based in a purpose built, state-of-the-art facility in Alconbury, Huntingdon. MM Flowers employs over 500 people who are dedicated to delivering exceptional quality and service to our customers.

We are currently looking for a Quality Assessors.

Purpose of the role:

The Quality Assessor is responsible for ensuring the quality and consistency of raw materials and finished goods meet the required specifications and standards. By conducting detailed assessments, recording findings, and communicating effectively with internal teams and suppliers, the Quality Assessor supports the delivery of high-quality products to customers.

Core responsibilities:

  • Use inspection processes and data to support growers and suppliers in delivering consistent raw materials to MM Flowers.
  • Conduct accurate assessments of raw material quality, recording findings with supporting photographic evidence where necessary.
  • Complete and send grower/supplier reports post-Procurement team evaluation within agreed timeframes, supported by data and visual evidence.
  • Identify and segregate materials that are out of specification, agreeing on actions with relevant departments.
  • Manage the status of raw materials (e.g., ‘Use’, ‘Hold’, ‘Dispose’) and ensure clear communication of material disposition.
  • Assist with surveys by loss adjusters to assess seriously defective consignments and identify ways to reduce losses through claims.
  • Assess the quality of finished bouquets against customer specifications using pre-determined checks.
  • Accurately assess finished goods, ensuring robust numeric data is used for consistent reporting.
  • Evaluate all aspects of finished products, linking to supporting departments to produce detailed assessments, including:
  • Raw materials (QC intake and APEX data)
  • Packaging (Commercial, NPD, and Packaging teams)
  • Label accuracy (Print room and Technical teams)
  • Construction (Operations and Account teams)
  • Record findings with supporting photographic evidence and complete daily, weekly, and periodic reports within agreed timeframes.
  • Communicate findings clearly and concisely to relevant internal teams in a timely manner.
  • Highlight any inconsistencies with product specifications to the Section Leader and support corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with operational staff to ensure finished goods meet specifications and are reworked when necessary.
  • Ensure that specifications prepared for the production line staff are accurate and fit for purpose.
  • Address any inadequacies in specifications with the Technical department.
  • Agree on corrective actions with relevant departments and follow up with subsequent assessments to ensure compliance.
  • Identify opportunities to improve raw material and finished goods quality.
  • Provide insights to growers and suppliers to reduce losses through claims and improve product quality.
  • Participate in quality-related initiatives to support the overall goals of the Quality Control department.

Role overview:

Shift pattern: Work only 7 days in 14 with our 4 on, 3 off, 3 on, 4 off shift pattern, Sunday – Wednesday – fully based on site

Hours: 7am – 7pm

About you:

  • Proven experience in quality assessment within a production or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to accurately record and interpret data.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to present findings clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and external suppliers.
  • Proficiency in using quality assessment tools and software.
  • Experience in the flower or horticulture industry.
  • Knowledge of customer specifications and quality standards in a production environment.
  • Familiarity with relevant systems, such as APEX or other QC data platforms.
