UBT are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Tax Specialist with a strong focus on Pay As You Earn (PAYE) and Value Added Tax (VAT) compliance. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring the company's adherence to tax regulations, optimising tax strategies, and mitigating potential risks. This role requires strong analytical skills, tax knowledge, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Responsibilities of the Tax Compliance Officer:
- Prepare, review, and file PAYE returns in compliance with local tax regulations.
- Ensure accurate and timely submission of tax reports and payments to relevant tax authorities.
- Conduct audits and reconciliations to verify tax calculations and resolve discrepancies.
- Stay up to date with changes in tax laws and regulations, assessing their impact on the company.
- Advise internal teams on tax-related matters, including payroll tax and VAT obligations.
- Assist in the development and implementation of tax planning strategies to optimise tax efficiency.
- Respond to tax inquiries and liaise with tax authorities as needed.
- Support financial teams in tax-related aspects of financial reporting and compliance.
- Maintain accurate and organised tax records and documentation.
- Collaborate with external tax advisors and auditors to ensure compliance and efficiency.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Proactively address stakeholder and customer needs with timely solutions.
- Resolve issues professionally, preventing escalation.
- Evaluate current processes and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Lead initiatives to implement best practices, reduce inefficiencies, and enhance service delivery.
- Stay updated on industry trends and incorporate innovative solutions to improve performance.
- Comply with all compliance policy and procedures.
- Assess the risk of work activities of the Business Unit team taking corrective and preventative actions as necessary.
- Participate in compliance training programmes and take personal responsibility for ensuring a safe work environment.
- Promote a culture of ownership by completing all required compliance training.
What the successful candidate will bring:
- CTA (Chartered Tax Adviser) - highly desirable.
- ACA / ACCA - with a focus on tax specialism.
- Strong technical knowledge of UK corporate tax legislation and HMRC processes.
- Experience preparing and reviewing tax computations and returns.
- Proficiency in managing VAT, PAYE, and other indirect tax obligations.
- Working knowledge of tax planning and risk mitigation strategies.
- Competence using tax compliance software (e.g., Alphatax, CCH, or similar).
- Advanced Excel skills for tax analysis and reporting.
- Ability to interpret and apply changes in tax legislation to business scenarios.
