Industry: Tier 1 Defence Prime

Location: Fully onsite – Gloucester

Working Week: 37.5 hrs across 4 days

Security Clearance: DV (Developed Vetting) required!

The Opportunity:

Operate where most engineers never get access — a classified R&D environment building the UK’s next-gen RF systems for intelligence and defence operations. You’ll take point on OpenCPI-based SDR systems — designing, integrating, and optimising platforms that are deployed into live mission environments.

Your Impact

• OpenCPI Architecture: Design, extend, and integrate OpenCPI modules to support high-performance SDR and embedded RF systems.
• End-to-End System Delivery: Lead full-lifecycle development — from prototyping and simulation to field deployment and operational validation.
• Software Defined Radio (SDR): Architect reconfigurable, ultra-reliable SDR systems with low-latency DSP pipelines.
• Embedded Signal Processing: Implemented and optimised RF algorithms across C/C++, VHDL, and FPGA environments.
• Field Trial Execution: Own deployment and performance validation alongside mission teams in live scenarios.
• DevOps for Defence: Develop in secure Linux environments using GitLab, CI/CD, and modern toolchains.

Key Requirements:

• UK National with current UKIC Developed Vetting (DV) and willingness to obtain enhanced DV.
• Proven expertise with OpenCPI — architecture, development, integration
• Strong foundation in RF communications and software-defined radio (SDR) technologies
• Proficiency in C/C++, VHDL, and DSP algorithm implementation
• Experience with Linux environments, version control, and SDR development tools (e.g., GnuRadio, Python)
• Familiarity with OSP/BSP development and real-time testing (e.g., using vector signal analysers)
• Track record of delivering embedded systems into mission environments
