Due to increased work in the region, we are looking to recruit an experienced and motivated Assistant Planning Engineer who can strengthen our existing team, delivering large civil engineering projects across Scotland . The projects are within the energy infrastructure sector, building new substations and HVDC converter stations to support Scotland’s transition to net Zero. Whilst BAM support flexible working options we are seeking individuals who are able to attend site at least the majority of each week and on occasion will be required to visit our offices in either Inverness or Kilsyth. Your mission As an Assistant Planning Engineer, you will be responsible for the following: Supporting the Planning Engineer in developing and maintaining detailed programmes in P6 Supporting management of sub-contractor programmes with our own. Assimilate and interpret information from tender and project documentation. Understand civil construction techniques and developing them into a working programme with support of the Planning Engineer. Coordinate with estimators and commercial teams on programme aspects. Compile concise narratives, phasing, reports and supporting documents for input into quality submissions for tenders and projects. Utilise a number of planning techniques and tools to communicate the programme effectively. Contribute, support and communicate programme information, risk and commercial issues to operational teams in a variety of formats. Contribute to collaborative planning workshops with clients, operational teams and subcontractors (depending on Project requirements). Update and monitor project progress, compile reports against project and contract requirements. Assist in introducing and analyse change in programmes and support the commercial teams. Evaluate supply chain and subcontract programmes. Comply with business processes and systems. Maintain awareness of latest construction techniques. Who are we looking for? Must have at least 2 years civil engineering on-site construction experience. Strong analytical skills and skilled in MS Excel also preferred Experience in reviewing construction drawings and completing quantity take-offs is preferred Experience in reading and interpreting works information/ specifications is preferred A qualification in Civil Engineering/Construction to HND level or equivalent is preferred but not essential Competent in the use of various planning software is preferable but not essential as training is available The ability to communicate effectively with all parties. A clear ability for logical thinking and working in an ordered fashion. The ability to work to often challenging timescales. Understanding of planning techniques. Tender/preconstruction experience would be an advantage. Good commercial and contractual awareness, particularly NEC contract. Whats in it for you?
