Salary:Circa £75,000

Hours:Flexible, 25-40 hours per week (full-time or part-time available – salary pro-rata)

Senior Optical Design Engineer Duties:

• Concept Generation– Develop innovative optical concepts for new product ideas.
• Optical Modelling & Tolerancing– Use industry-standard software to model and tolerance optical designs.
• Prototype Development– Collaborate with suppliers and in-house teams to create and test optical prototypes.
• Experimental Testing– Evaluate optical performance in lab and dark room environments.
• Collaboration– Provide optical expertise to assist the design team and support the NPI process.
• Research & Development– Stay up to date with the latest advancements in optical technology.

Senior Optical Design EngineerRequirements:

• Extensive experience in the research and design of optical, optomechanical, or video-based products.
• Strong background in optical engineering with relevant experience in industrial, consumer, or laboratory optical products.
• Proficiency in Optical Design Systems such as Zemax and/or 3D CAD software (ideally PTC Creo).
• Familiarity with scientific software like Matlab and Mathcad is a plus.
• Degree in Physics, Optical Engineering, or related discipline (higher degree preferred).
• Working knowledge of optical manufacturing processes.
• At least 8 years’ experience in a relevant field.
• Self-motivated, creative, and able to manage multiple projects with minimal supervision.
