Elevate Flexible Resourcing is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Compliance Legal Counsel to join our customer starting ASAP. Contract length - 1 month. Location - London (1-2 days per week in the office).
Qualifications:
- Experienced Legal professional with significant post-qualification experience in corporate governance and compliance (either within private practice or in-house environments).
- Ideally understands charity compliance and/or has experience in the not-for-profit sector (this is desirable but not essential).
- Independently provided expert legal advice on compliance, governance, and regulatory requirements (e.g., business law, charity commission, financial regulations, procurement, health & safety, data protection, etc.).
- Strong prioritisation and organisation skills with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision, while managing multiple projects and delivering to deadlines with strong attention to detail.
- Has built credible and collaborative stakeholder relationships with experience influencing at all levels (including leadership) and clear verbal and written communication.
- Demonstrable problem solving, analytical, and business intelligence skills.
- IT literate - MS Office (including Word, Excel and Outlook).
- Able to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Overseeing and mapping Customer's legal compliance, regulatory requirements, and internal policies.
- Supporting the Head of Legal in developing Customer's legal compliance strategy.
- Developing and implementing the legal compliance framework and strategy.
- Drafting policies, updates, templates, and contracts.
- Providing training and awareness across the charity on legal requirements.
- Maintaining compliance registers and ensuring compliance with charity law.
- Horizon scanning and providing legal and regulatory updates.
- Advising on key implementation projects and risk management topics.
- Business partnering with teams outside of the UK to strengthen local compliance.
- Supporting Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategy initiatives.
- Providing legal and governance support to the Heads of Legal and General Counsel.
- Ensuring compliance with Charity Commission's serious incident reporting requirements.
- Overseeing litigation management and collaborating on effective procedures.
- Developing a legally compliant assurance framework with relevant teams.
- Overseeing and updating legal compliance, risk, litigation, and assurance mapping.
- Advising on and managing business law issues, including governance.
- Reporting on legal and compliance performance and escalating concerns.
- Collaborating with other departments to foster a culture of compliance.
- Assisting the Head of Legal in providing in-house legal advice.
