We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Maintenance Technician or Handyperson to join our team in Gateshead. You will play a crucial role in ensuring that all buildings, fabric, and ancillary equipment/services are fully operational. Your primary focus will be on maintaining the safety and wellbeing of all employees and equipment, ensuring that all functions are efficient and meet customer specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintenance and Repairs: Carry out planned maintenance, timely repair of breakdowns, and continuous improvement activities. Ensure all equipment achieves optimum capacity and is in a good state of repair.
- Safety and Compliance: Ensure all works are carried out in accordance with health and safety standards/processes and production planning. Always maintain compliance with all health and safety and food safety standards.
- Collaboration: Work collaboratively with contractors and other team members to ensure all aspects of work are maintained and run safely and efficiently. Support the engineering team in root cause analysis and resolution implementation.
- Reporting: Maintain consistent and accurate reporting of all activities, including temporary repairs log via the CMMS system. Promote and demonstrate proactive measures for improving machines/equipment and processes.
- Training and Support: Support and deliver formal training to the wider operations team to drive continuous improvements. Assist with various required roles within the operations department when needed.
- Environmental Management: Act as the 'competent person' for site effluent management, ensuring environmental permit compliance and monitoring.
Skills & Experience Required:
- Technical Proficiency: Able to understand, evaluate, and apply technical information. Experience with production lines/machines and basic literacy and IT/PC skills.
- Problem-Solving: Quick to identify critical information and respond appropriately. Able to define, work within, and improve business processes based on immediate and future needs.
- Time Management: Able to apportion time effectively to complete tasks and provide colleagues with the information they need to eliminate roadblocks.
- Drive and Energy: Dependably achieve set goals and be energized by challenges and opportunities.
- Communication: Confident and professional in representing the company. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Teamwork: Ability to work effectively with both executives and operators on the floor. A candid team player who collaborates with peers to solve problems.
Qualifications:
- Right to work in the United Kingdom.
- Good verbal and written English communication and numeracy skills.
- Level 2 Food Safety (provided by the business).
