We are looking to add a Lead Data Migration Engineer to our current data team of 4, who will help to manage challenging and rewarding data migrations for our customers. The Lead Data Migration Engineer is a key member of the Customer Success team at myairops. This is a hands-on technical role, with around 80% of your time focused on personally delivering customer data migrations — transforming and onboarding customer data from third-party systems into the myairops platform. The remaining 20% of your time will provide technical leadership to the wider data engineering function. You’ll help set and maintain standards across all migration projects, reduce technical debt, and design improved, streamlined processes for data onboarding. You’ll work closely with customers, Solution Consultants (product specialists), and developers to ensure every migration is accurate, efficient, and sets our customers up for long-term success with the myairops platform.

More about the role: This role will be key to our Customer Success function, helping to lead our data engineering team and leading successful data migration projects and data management activities with respect to myairops products and data. The Lead Data Migrations Engineer will remain focused on representing the customer requirements, and understanding what is important to the customer in the way we manage data migrations.

Primary Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Customer Data Migrations (Hands-On Delivery): Lead and personally deliver customer data migrations as part of their onboarding journey. Work with stakeholders to define, validate, and document migration requirements. Transform, map, and load customer data from third-party or legacy systems into the myairops platform. Develop and maintain onboarding scripts and tooling to support repeatable, high-quality data processing. Ensure data quality and accuracy, validating outcomes and addressing anomalies early. Collaborate with internal SMEs and customer representatives to clarify data logic, structure, and business rules.
  • Technical Leadership & Process Improvement: Provide technical oversight and direction to the wider data engineering effort across projects. Ensure consistent quality and standards are applied across all migrations. Identify and reduce technical debt in existing scripts, tools, and approaches. Design, document, and champion streamlined data onboarding processes that improve reliability and reduce effort. Share best practices, tools, and patterns across the Customer Success and Engineering teams.
  • Tooling & Data Operations: Maintain and evolve ETL pipelines used to onboard customer data and feed core services. Manage core data templates, baseline datasets, and internal reference tooling. Continuously seek opportunities to optimise and automate steps in the migration lifecycle.
  • Risk & Quality Management: Escalate risks or blockers early with clear impact and mitigation options. Maintain structured and up-to-date documentation for all migration activities. Uphold standards for clean, consistent, and verifiable data loading into customer environments. Support compliance and audit readiness as it relates to customer data handling.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience required:

Essential: Strong experience using SQL and Python. Some knowledge of C# and JSON. Understanding of the principles of building interactive applications to communicate with Business APIs. Ability to manage multiple tasks, utilising effective time management & prioritising skills. Able to proactively manage and anticipate potential issues and risks. Able to demonstrate strong communication skills, to work effectively with all teams across the business, instilling confidence and trust in our data engineering capabilities.
