We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Team Leader to join our residential childcare team. In this key leadership role, you’ll support the Registered Manager in the day-to-day running of the home, provide direct care to young people, and guide and supervise a team of support staff. You’ll lead with confidence, particularly in the manager’s absence, helping ensure a safe, nurturing, and structured environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the Registered Manager in ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.
- Safeguard and promote the welfare of young people, ensuring their individual needs are met.
- Assist with the admissions process, creating a welcoming and supportive environment.
- Support transition planning when young people leave the home.
- Monitor and maintain care plans and documentation through robust auditing.
- Conduct staff supervisions and appraisals, supporting professional development.
- Participate in the management on-call rota as required.
- Work flexibly to meet the needs of the service.
Day-to-Day Duties:
- Lead shifts and ensure children are engaged, supported, and safe.
- Collaborate with social workers, parents, schools, and other professionals.
- Assist in rota planning to ensure appropriate skill mix and coverage.
- Guide staff in accurate and timely reporting of incidents and safeguarding concerns.
- Promote compliance with training and induction requirements.
- Contribute to the development of the annual training plan.
- Support health and safety standards in the home and grounds.
What We’re Looking For:
Qualifications:- HNC and SVQ Level 3 in Social Services (Children & Young People) – essential
- SVQ Level 4 – desirable or willingness to work towards it
- Minimum 2 years in residential childcare or a similar setting
- Knowledge of children’s residential care legislation and safeguarding procedures
- Strong leadership, mentoring, and communication skills
- In-depth understanding of Care Inspectorate quality standards
- Organised, empathetic, and confident in a team leadership role
- Committed to upholding the rights of children and young people (UNCRC)
