About this client/child: Fraser, nearly 8, lives in Colchester with his mum, dad, and big brother. From the moment he opens his eyes, Fraser is bursting with energy, like a Jack-in-the-box ready to spring into action! He’s fiercely independent, incredibly curious, highly intelligent, and always up for an adventure. Fraser has attended intensive therapies at NAPA USA since he was 18 months old, and more recently at NAPA UK. He absolutely loves water – swimming twice at weekends and turning bathtime into a full-on aquatic event! Weekends are jam-packed from morning to night with activities, and supporting Fraser is very much a team effort. His new buddy/PA will be warmly welcomed into the heart of this close-knit family and invited to share in all the fun. Fraser’s big brother is calm, easy-going, and happily lets Fraser take centre stage – though he’s quietly, but fiercely proud of him. Fraser has dyskinetic/dystonic cerebral palsy which affects all four limbs. He is non-verbal and communicates brilliantly using an Eye Gaze device. He’s mainly gastrostomy-fed but enjoys tasting soft foods like ice cream and pizza. Fraser uses a wheelchair and walker – and he’s particularly speedy when zooming down the aisles at Tesco! And there’s more to this vibrant young boy – Fraser is a whiz with his Eye Gaze, always full of questions and bursting with imagination. He loves role play, science experiments, and all things Play-Doh.

Overview of role: A typical weekend day can look like this: as soon as Fraser wakes up his first question is ‘What do we do today?’ Shopping with his mum to the local Tesco (many scoots had) then onto ‘Chatty Box’, home for lunch, visit to a skateboarding park, swimming, MacDonalds, then home, bathtime then bed. Swimming will last up to two hours, and Fraser will be the last to leave the pool. Fraser has a WAV for getting out and about during weekends.

Who this job would suit: Someone who genuinely wants to support Fraser and his lovely family with an extra pair of hands during busy days. You’ll help Fraser enjoy his activities while giving mum or dad time to focus on his brother or tackle everyday tasks. Being intuitive to the family’s needs and happy to muck in is key. A driver who loves swimming.

What’s great about this job: There is fantastic ongoing support and supervision from the family’s case manager, manual handling, Gastrostomy training provided. And of course, Fraser! He is like a magnet, who will beguile you with his energy and charm.
