About the role and what we’re looking for

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Consultation and Engagement team. The post holder will be the dedicated assistant officer for the team and report to the consultation and engagement team leader. We are seeking an organised, efficient and experienced project support officer with excellent communication skills to support with the Local Government Restructure (LGR) engagement project. You’ll need to provide strong and accurate project and administration support to help the team deliver an extensive programme of engagement for LGR.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Deal with email and telephone enquiries and correspondence on LGR
  • Research consultees / businesses and prepare databases for the LGR engagement
  • Administer the consultation database (including the dedicated consultation and engagement email account)
  • Prepare consultation letters, mail merges and facilitate large scale mail outs
  • Review and summarise consultation statutory guidance
  • Prepare the LGR engagement using the councils’ online consultation platform
  • Extract data from the LGR online survey to help prepare the consultation report
  • Redact and prepare consultation report for publication on website
  • Organise and help set up logistics for consultation events, workshops, focus groups and exhibitions
  • Attend events and manage meet and greet / reception, logging of demographics, answering questions about consultation process
  • Draft website updates and monitor webpage content
  • Cover for other officers as necessary
  • General administrative support

The duties may vary from time to time without changing the nature of the post or the level of responsibility and the post holder may also be required to carry out any other duties appropriate to the grading of the post.

About you

Your essential qualifications:

  • Educated to GCSE Grade C in Maths and English, or equivalent qualifications, or equivalent level of experience

Your experience, skills and knowledge:

  • Minimum of two years’ experience in an administrative role
  • Must have a good understanding and working knowledge of all Microsoft Office applications such as Access, Word, Excel, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint and Adobe
  • Experience of working on multiple projects in a range of teams
  • Excellent communication skills

If you have the following experience or qualifications – it’s a bonus:

  • Experience of using consultation software packages
  • Experience updating websites
  • Knowledge of the consultation process
  • Experience of reading and understanding statutory guidance
