Are you an ambitious Assistant Company Secretary looking to make a substantial impact in a dynamic, challenging and growing business? Are you looking for main board exposure, UK plc experience and interesting advisory work? This fantastic opportunity within a busy and friendly team with a real sense of teamwork would suit an ambitious Company Secretary either from an In-House background seeking fresh challenge, increased variety and greater main board experience or from an advisory/professional firm seeking more responsibility and advisory/project work in an entrepreneurial environment.
This Global trusted partner in the Corporate and Funds Advisory and Outsourced Service markets has a presence in 50 countries, manages over 200,000 legal entities and administers assets of c$500 billion on behalf of clients. Their client and partner base includes 30% of the top 50 Fortune Global 500 companies and 60% of the Top 10 private equity firms. They are currently seeking a curious and ambitious Company Secretary who is keen to make a genuine difference to a varied and challenging range of client businesses – both plc and corporate.
If you’re a fresh-thinker who likes to ask “why do we do it this way… what about….?” in a genuinely meritocratic organisation, then this could be the opportunity for you! In this key role within their dedicated Co Sec team, you will report to the Senior Manager and work with a team of qualified and part-qualified company secretaries. You will enjoy a fantastic breadth of work delivering both governance advice and board support to a portfolio of both listed and corporate clients in the UK and overseas. Recent projects include IPOs and international SPACs (Special Purpose Acquisition Companies). Their client base includes a lot of overseas listed businesses, AIM and full listed plc’s and unlisted/corporate businesses (some of which are pre-IPO) and span a range of sectors including banking, insurance, telecommunications and pharmaceuticals.
You will also actively be encouraged to develop thought-leadership initiatives, improving processes and growing the team as well as working with other service lines to develop new relationships and opportunities within existing clients as well as new potential clients. This role will appeal to an ambitious Assistant Company Secretary who is looking for an opportunity to make a genuine difference in an entrepreneurial environment.
As the ideal candidate you are likely to:
- Be of degree calibre and preferably be a qualified/near qualified Company Secretary – or a lawyer who has been in a Co Sec role
- Bring a minimum of 5 years broad-ranging company secretarial and governance technical skills with proven board support skills including attendance at boards/minute taking etc
- Have the ability to advise on UK corporate governance best practice and be up to date with the UK Corporate Governance Code and subsidiary/entity management.
- Preferably have listed company experience and expertise, however candidates who are bright and ambitious to gain listed experience will also be considered
- Have a track record of success – either within an in-house function and be looking for greater variety/challenge or from within a service provider/advisory firm and be looking for a more entrepreneurial environment (to the standards of listed company/deputy company secretary) of AIM and FTSE 350 – though this is not essential
- Have a passion for delivering great client service with strong relationship building skills
- Have a genuine enthusiasm for innovation and thought leadership to develop new ideas and implement projects/changes
- Be an accomplished coach and mentor to support more junior members of the team
This role is based in London but as a forward-thinking organisation, there is full support for hybrid/flexible working - providing you are able to commit to being in London to attend boards etc on an “as and when needed” basis. On offer is a salary of up to c£75,000 plus bonus and benefits.
