Job Summary
The Senior Manufacturing Engineer (Systems and Controls) is responsible for the delivery of robust, capable manufacturing processes through the introduction of PLC and industry 4.0 technology. The candidate will provide expert knowledge on machinery, processes and automation to support the Manufacturing Engineering and Maintenance teams. The Senior ME will support the identification of projects through their analysis and understanding of the key issues and opportunities, and will then manage the projects, using data and structured problem-solving techniques. This role is crucial to develop the future readiness of the site.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical expertise on electrical/electronics to deliver solutions to complex problems.
- Lead the definition of manufacturing facilities and equipment requirements for the introduction of new or upgraded facilities and equipment.
- Evaluate and develop manufacturing processes and controls to improve quality and product throughput, and reduce cost.
- Completion of Electrical/Electronic process improvement initiatives.
- Support the maintenance teams to reduce downtime and improve efficiency of equipment.
- Incorporation of SCADA based technology and systems.
- Introduction of embedded process analytics.
- Introduction of networked OEE systems, Short Interval Control.
- Use of DMAIC principles to implement improvements, and to present projects to the teams and stakeholders.
- Applying lean principles to identify and reduce waste, and optimize processes.
- Designing and developing tools and equipment.
- Interface with customers and suppliers.
- Effective Project management.
Qualifications
- Significant experience in Manufacturing / Maintenance / Production Engineering or similar.
- Experience in the embedding of automated systems.
- Experience in PLC programming – Siemens preferred.
- Knowledge of SCADA based systems and integration.
- Familiarity with the implementation of OEE systems.
- Understanding of industry 4.0 technologies.
- Knowledge and familiarity with condition based monitoring.
- Understanding of Lean Principles and experienced in driving process improvement initiatives.
- Experience managing projects, using problem-solving skills and root cause analysis.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills, able to develop formal reports and documents; and confident presenting them to internal and external stakeholders.
- HNC/HND Electrical/Electronic Engineering/ time served apprenticeship with relevant experience.
- Experience working within Aerospace industry standards including AS9100 Quality Systems (Desired).
- Green Belt Lean Six Sigma (Desired).
Working Hours
07:30 - 16:15: Monday-Thursday
07:30 - 16:00: Fridays (Every other Friday is a non-working day)
