Job Overview: Working within the Cargo and Vehicle Inspection section of Rapiscan Systems Engineering team. As part of our team, you will be involved in projects at all stages of the product lifecycle, from initial concept generation, new product introduction and continuous improvement in manufacture. The successful candidate will be working within a team of Electronics Design Engineers, reporting to the Chief Electronics Engineer, designing Electronic components and systems on X-ray Cargo and Vehicle Inspection (CVI) scanning equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Research and development of precision analog signal conditioning and acquisition (transimpedance amplifiers and signal ADC).
- Board level high speed digital circuit design utilising FPGAs and embedded processors.
- Design-for-manufacturing reviews of production PCB assemblies.
- Design, code, implement and verify FPGAs (Xilinx & Lattice) using Verilog.
- Design, code and debug low level applications, primarily using ‘C’, for FPGA processors (Microblaze), microcontrollers (MSP430, AVR, Tiva) and embedded Linux microprocessor systems (Sitara AM5728).
- Realise algorithms defined by floating point models in fixed point FPGA DSP slices.
- Work with outside design services to deliver PCB layouts, SI analysis and mechanical board design.
- Practical hands on bring up, test and diagnostics of board level hardware.
- Authoring of engineering documentation to established team procedures.
- Support manufacturing/commissioning/service departments.
- Some international travel may be required for technical collaboration.
- Duties may be modified or assigned at any time to meet the needs of the business.
Experience and Attributes:
- “All rounder” electronics engineer able to tackle board level hardware design, analog, digital, and low level embedded software.
- History of circuit board designs and bring up.
- Experience of bare metal software development with TI code composer studio, Vivado SDK, AVR studio.
- Adept use of processor J-TAG emulators/debuggers and lab test equipment, oscilloscopes, DVMs, PSUs.
- Practical hands-on approach to working with circuit boards including soldering, reworking and measurement.
- Excellent verbal and written communicator able to converse effectively with specialist teams.
- A flexible engineer able to pick up new ideas and tools quickly, to work under pressure both independently and within a small and dynamic team.
- Broad knowledge of electronics, design techniques and EDA tools for hardware and embedded software.
- Understanding of EMC, high speed signal integrity and design for manufacture and test.
- BEng/BSc in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or other relevant field of study (Required).
- MEng/MSc in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or other relevant field of study (Desired).
