We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced hydrologist to join our busy and established Hydrology & Hydrogeology team in the UK. This vacancy is for a role to join a team which are already working on a range of nationally significant projects which are and will make a tangible contribution to our journey to Net Zero.

This position presents an outstanding opportunity to join a large team of hydrologists, drainage and flood management engineers and be part of a wider group which also comprises hydrogeologists, geomorphologists and geochemists. As a hydrology specialist, you will act as a technical leader, responsible for the technical direction and quality, whether applying innovative thinking to new or established services or developing your own concepts from scratch. Alongside your technical role, you will have the opportunity to enhance your skills in project management and business development through engaging with our water sector and regulatory framework clients.

The role involves working alongside Principals and Technical Directors who manage the delivery of water environment, flood management and drainage projects. The successful candidate will be required to manage and contribute to a range of studies where an accurate assessment of surface water flows is critical. Examples might include, but not be limited to, definition of flood water flows for pre-determined return periods to support flood risk assessments, or derivation of Flow Duration Curves to support hydro-power developments or surface water abstraction licence applications to support hydrogen power projects.

The key responsibilities for this role are:

  • Technical leading and reviewing hydrological studies using FEH statistical and ReFH methodologies, including low flows hydrology.
  • Managing and delivering projects on time and on budget.
  • Mentoring and training of junior staff.

We are looking for someone with a proven track record comfortable in working in a fast-paced consultancy environment. In addition, you will need to have:

  • Degree level qualification in hydrology, geography, mathematics, civil engineering, or other related discipline.
  • Proven track record in leading and reviewing hydrological studies using FEH statistical and ReFH methodologies, including low flows hydrology.
  • Chartered (or near Chartership) with an appropriate professional body.
  • Understanding of the UK regulatory requirements.
  • Experience of successfully managing and delivering projects.
  • Able to undertake hydrological technical reviews, mentor and train junior staff.
  • Excellent communication and written skills.

The successful candidate can be based in one of the following offices: Edinburgh, Stirling, Glasgow, Manchester or London.
