Role Summary
Our client is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Electrical Services Maintenance Manager to support the operational delivery of electrical maintenance services across a complex estate. This role involves overseeing statutory, planned, and reactive maintenance of electrical systems to ensure compliance, efficiency, and continuity of operations. You will manage a team of directly employed electrical staff, contractors, and be responsible for technical support and operational leadership in line with organisational service standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Management & Organisation
- Lead and coordinate the electrical services maintenance team in line with company policies and guidance.
- Schedule and prioritise statutory, planned, and reactive maintenance, including defect repairs and minor works.
- Allocate and manage directly employed labour and external contractors to deliver services efficiently and to required standards.
- Manage workshops, vehicles, tools, and equipment to support operational readiness.
- Develop procedures aligned with the Estates Maintenance Strategy and Strategic Asset Management Plan.
- Implement and monitor Safe Systems of Work including Risk and CoSHH Assessments.
- Carry out regular Health & Safety inspections and ensure timely resolution of any actions.
- Support apprentice development programs, including mentoring and monitoring performance.
- Technical Duties
- Provide technical support to internal staff and contractors maintaining complex electrical systems.
- Undertake site work as required to assess, assist, and guide electrical maintenance operations.
- Investigate and report on incidents and technical issues, offering recommendations and maintaining records.
- Manage Permits to Work, reviewing associated health and safety documentation.
- Act as a Senior Authorised Person for high voltage switching and maintenance on the clientβs 11kV network.
- Contribute to energy-saving initiatives and provide insights for performance improvements.
- Support emergency response activities in line with business continuity protocols.
- Provide input into maintenance and project cost plans, specifications, and asset management strategies.
- Contractor Management
- Support the Contracts Team in managing contractor performance, ensuring adherence to standards, compliance, and value for money.
- Ensure all contractors are compliant with health and safety policies, have correct permits, and provide all necessary documentation.
- Evaluate contractor schedules and completed work for compliance and quality.
- Assist in writing technical specifications and contribute to procurement and tendering processes.
- Monitor contractor performance, verify invoices, and ensure accurate service documentation is received.
- Communication
- Facilitate team meetings and keep direct reports informed of updates and initiatives.
- Liaise with stakeholders across departments to plan service disruptions and coordinate maintenance activity.
- Ensure effective communication with the Estates team, store managers, and building users.
- Financial Responsibilities
- Provide cost estimates for works and manage small projects within budget and compliance frameworks.
- Advise on procurement of tools, equipment, and materials, ensuring quality and value for money.
- General Duties
- Participate in the on-call rota as required.
- Undertake additional tasks as needed in support of the Estates function.
Essential Criteria
- Recognised electrical apprenticeship or equivalent experience; NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds 236 (parts 1 & 2), or 2330 Levels 2 & 3.
- Demonstrable experience in electrical maintenance across commercial, industrial, and domestic environments.
- Experience managing teams and contractors on maintenance and minor work.
- In-depth technical knowledge of electrical and building systems.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to implement solutions effectively.
- Effective communicator with strong written and verbal skills.
- Self-starter with excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite including Outlook, Excel, Word, and MS Project.
- Strong understanding of statutory compliance and H&S obligations.
- Skilled in negotiation and delivering excellent customer service.
- City & Guilds 2382 β 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.
- Knowledge of fire alarm systems in accordance with BS 5839.
Desirable Criteria
- Approved HV Switching training/experience.
- NEBOSH or IOSH Certificate in Health & Safety.
- BTEC HNC in Electrical or Building Services.
- Experience with manual/hydraulic lifting platforms.
- Familiarity with mobile tower scaffolding and confined space entry protocols.
