SSQ is partnering with a leading global employee benefits business in their search for a Mid-Level Legal Counsel to join their team on a 12–18 month fixed-term contract. The organization collaborates with insurers worldwide to help multinational companies structure and manage their employee benefits programs, providing expertise in commercial and corporate insurance matters on a global scale.

About the Legal Team
The Legal Team operates at the heart of the business, advising on a wide range of legal and strategic matters. It is structured into three streams: Core, Commercial, and Corporate, all under the leadership of the Chief Legal Officer. The team works closely with business units on commercial contracts, day-to-day operational matters, and high-level legal strategy. You will join the Core legal stream, working across reinsurance, commercial contracts, and regulatory matters. This role offers a fast-paced, collaborative environment where you will make a meaningful impact.
Key Responsibilities:
- Working autonomously on the review, drafting, and negotiation of complex (re)insurance agreements, including Member Agreements, Captive Agreements, Reinsurance Agreements, and Pool Agreements.
- Acting as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders, providing legal counsel on strategic business matters, product development, and regulatory risk.
- Providing specialist advice on data protection, commercial contracts, and corporate governance.
- Managing legal risks and ensuring compliance with internal policies and industry regulations.
- Overseeing contractual negotiations and risk mitigation strategies, ensuring legal frameworks align with business objectives.
- Supporting cross-functional teams, including finance, underwriting, and marketing, on legal issues related to business operations.
Required Skills & Experience
- Solicitor qualified in England and Wales, with 4-6 years PQE.
- Strong expertise in reinsurance law, commercial contracts, and regulatory compliance.
- Prior in-house legal experience, preferably within insurance, financial services, or employee benefits.
- Excellent drafting, negotiation, and problem-solving skills with the ability to provide pragmatic commercial advice.
- Demonstrated experience working with senior stakeholders and managing complex legal issues autonomously.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, international environment and manage competing priorities.
- Strong commercial awareness and understanding of global insurance markets.
