The Role: We are currently recruiting for an experienced Commercial Manager to take the lead on Change Management activities related to a major infrastructure project in the North. This role focuses on managing change across NEC-based contracts, encompassing both permanent and temporary design works. These include a principal contractor agreement and several multi-million-pound design subcontracts. The successful candidate will oversee all aspects of change control, from early warnings to compensation events, while collaborating closely with the client team and supply chain. The role also involves contract administration via CEMAR and includes the management of internal commercial and design teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead Change Management across design works under the main contract and associated subcontracts
- Prepare and respond to formal contractual communications and notices in a timely manner
- Administer contracts using the CEMAR platform
- Ensure consistent and accurate communication with both clients and subcontractors
- Forecast change in cost and time in collaboration with planning and commercial teams
- Maintain a robust risk register
- Prepare and assess Compensation Event quotations in line with NEC contract requirements
- Oversee permissions and access control to relevant systems
- Monitor and control scope changes to keep the project within budget
- Support conflict resolution and dispute avoidance
- Mentor and manage junior staff, including apprentices
- Deliver regular reports and forecasts to senior leadership
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- Degree (BSc or MSc) in Quantity Surveying or equivalent relevant experience
- Professional membership of RICS, ICE, or CIOB
- In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with NEC contracts
- Strong contract communication skills with excellent written English
- Highly organised, detail-oriented, and a collaborative team player
- Comfortable using web-based contract administration systems (e.g., CEMAR), Excel, and project databases
