The Role: Principal AWS Solutions Architect. As a Principal Cloud Solutions Architect, you will be part of a highly skilled team supporting customers on their journey to rehost, replatform, and refactor mission-critical systems into Amazon Web Services (AWS). You will bring deep cloud knowledge and technical leadership to projects that demand agility, precision, and innovation. From hands-on architecture and documentation to mentoring, knowledge sharing, and technical direction, your expertise will have both immediate and long-term impact.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead or support the definition of customer requirements (functional and non-functional), working alongside senior stakeholders and engineers.
- Design and document scalable, secure systems through High- and Low-Level Designs and Operational Concepts.
- Implement large-scale technical solutions and ensure robust testing and documentation are completed.
- Mentor junior engineers on tools and best practices.
- Set technical standards and lead on quality assurance across your project.
- Work with Project Managers and stakeholders to prioritise deliverables and manage time, cost, and scope effectively (DevFinOps).
- Produce high-quality user-centric documentation such as Concept of Operations (CONOPS), SyOPs, Support and User Guides.
- Investigate and resolve complex technical issues and defects.
What You’ll Bring
- Strong background in IT systems design, deployment, and administration.
- Demonstrated leadership in technical or team-based roles.
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional (or equivalent level).
- Experience designing, deploying, and managing solutions on AWS.
- Deep knowledge of Linux or Windows OS administration in enterprise environments.
- Skilled in IPv4 networking, including design, deployment, and troubleshooting.
- Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools such as AWS CDK, CloudFormation, or Terraform.
- Experience with Docker/Kubernetes for virtualised or containerised systems.
- Familiarity with high-security or complex operational environments.
Desirable Skills
- Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines in a DevOps context.
- Familiarity with Git-based workflows and agile release practices.
- Understanding of secure network architecture and configuration of routers/firewalls.
- Use of configuration management tools like Ansible or Puppet.
- Comfortable working with agile tools (e.g. Jira, Confluence) and frameworks (e.g. Scrum, SAFe).
- Knowledge of ITIL service management principles.
