Passenger traffic is a crucial factor influencing Heathrow's planning, performance, and financial operations. Consequently, accurate, widely comprehended, and well-supported forecasts for the medium and long term are essential for the company. This role entails leading the development of these forecasts and continuously improving the methodologies, quality of inputs, and the reliability and utility of the outputs. It also involves engaging with senior managers at Heathrow, as well as external customers, investors, and other stakeholders, to ensure the effective utilization of forecast outputs. Additionally, this position supports the Head of Forecasting in developing models and outputs that will guide Heathrow's growth over the next 30 years. The forecasting team is entering a critical phase as we aim to create a comprehensive forecast for an expanding Heathrow. This endeavour will leverage new capabilities such as programming, cloud-based computing, machine learning, artificial intelligence, Monte Carlo methods, and big data to enhance passenger forecasting.
Responsibilities
- Deliver long-term forecasts for business and capacity planning.
- Assist the Head of Master Planning in developing growth forecast models, requiring an understanding of model mechanics and economics, and adjusting inputs as needed.
- Lead projects across teams and consultants to create new forecasts and methodologies, chairing a Red Team to challenge assumptions.
- Analyze business data monthly to provide insights on passenger performance, presenting findings to senior managers, the Exec, and the Board.
- Collaborate with Airline Business Development to identify causes and opportunities, fulfill external reporting obligations, and support press activities.
- Explore operational scenario planning for events like storms and strategic scenarios such as industrial action.
- Mentor analysts, fostering high-quality talent in capacity and passenger forecasting.
- Enhance forecasting processes and tools using the latest technology for improved accuracy, efficiency, and robustness.
- Build cross-functional links to strengthen Heathrow's analytic capabilities, modeling these behaviours.
Qualifications
- Extensive quantitative, Math's, Engineering, Economics, with statistical, econometric or demand forecasting experience.
- Broad knowledge of airport operations and aviation sector, along with a strong awareness of economic concepts and an interest in macro-economic issues.
- A track record of delivering complete work to demanding timescales and making recommendations that have influenced business strategies and made improvements to processes or policies.
- Ability to make reasoned judgements based on uncertain information in a commercially intelligent way.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience of presenting complex ideas, evidence, and processes concisely to senior and external audiences.
- Highly numerate with excellent analytical skills, and an advanced user in Excel and a competent user of MS Word, PowerPoint, PowerBI and other O365 applications.

Working Location
Our Hybrid working approach offers the opportunity for colleagues in some roles to work from home for an average of two days a week, providing the flexibility to work in an agile way whilst ensuring we deliver for the operational needs of Heathrow. Working arrangements vary from team to team and will be confirmed during the recruitment process. You'll need to be based in the UK and within a commutable distance to Heathrow.
