Position Description

Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Test Engineer I to join the Data Center Power & Control Division in Reading, UK . This position supports daily production testing of electromechanical assemblies, including test program validation, operator training, technical support, and equipment maintenance. Responsibilities also include developing custom and standard test equipment, designing electronic hardware and software, and ensuring production testing technologies are properly used and sustained.

What Will You Do?

Main Job Duties:

  • Verify the accuracy and performance of production test programs before deployment.
  • Develop hardware/software solutions supporting manufacturing quality and efficiency.
  • Provide technical support via the Production Technology Help Desk, troubleshooting issues, escalating as needed, and ensuring resolution.
  • Maintain test equipment both onsite and offsite.
  • Create technical documentation, assemble test stations and custom equipment.
  • Train supervisors and operators on technology use.
  • Analyze and report on test program and equipment performance metrics.
  • Communicate status updates to relevant teams.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements.
  • Perform system upgrades, scheduled maintenance, and repairs.
  • Collaborate with Production and Engineering teams to keep them informed.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

Required Skills:

  • Four-year technical degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or related field.
  • Relevant electronics design experience, professional or academic.
  • Internship or co-op experience preferred.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Analytical skills in troubleshooting and problem-solving related to engineering testing.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing and electrical safety practices.
  • Ability to read technical drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Knowledge of software development, architecture, and networking.
  • Experience with hand and power tools, soldering, and electro-mechanical assembly.

Preferred Skills & Working Conditions

  • Exposure to manufacturing environments requiring PPE.
  • Ability to stand, walk, communicate, assemble, and maintain electrical hardware.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods and lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 10%.
