The successful candidate will join a dynamic and supportive team consisting of two other Consultants based at Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary, responsible for providing a Microbiology service and supporting the Infection Prevention and Control service.
There are opportunities for a joint Microbiology/Infectious Diseases trained post holder to contribute to the Infectious Diseases service, including Infection ward based duties and Out-Patient Antibiotic Therapy (OPAT) clinics. The consultant job plan is flexible and open to negotiation on appointment. The job plan will be offered on a 10 PA contract (the balance between direct clinical care and supporting professional activities will be discussed and agreed between the Board and the successful applicant).
The current Microbiology on call commitment is a 1 in 4 rota, carried out remotely with a home working package. Work can be undertaken from home and payment/time back is given for on-call duties.
The region offers beautiful countryside, from rugged cliffs and sandy beaches to forests, hills and rolling plains. There is a wide range of activities on offer, with water sports, hiking, fishing, bird watching, golf, mountain-biking or cycling along the network of rural roads and much more. There are also lots of family friendly attractions- farm parks, soft plays etc. House prices are low in comparison to other areas of the UK (some recently appointed consultants have now swapped 3 bedroom houses for farms with many acres of land), schools are good and you are within 1.5 hours of Edinburgh, Glasgow, Lake District and Newcastle to enjoy the variety of city and country life.
NHS Dumfries and Galloway offer a full relocation package. Applications from candidates looking to work less than full time are also welcome. There is flexibility around individual’s requirements and the requirements of family and partners.
