My client is looking for a commercially astute Financial Controller to lead the finance function and support their strategic growth ambitions.

The Role: As Financial Controller, you will take ownership of the financial health of the business, providing key insights to drive decision-making and ensuring strong financial controls. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, this is a hands-on role that requires both strategic thinking and operational execution.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all financial operations, including management accounts, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
  • Prepare timely and accurate financial reports for senior management and stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain robust financial controls and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Manage the external audit process and liaise with external advisors.
  • Drive improvements in financial processes and systems to enhance efficiency and scalability.
  • Provide financial analysis to support business growth, cost control, and profitability.
  • Partner with department heads to ensure financial best practices across the business.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) with proven experience in an SME environment.
  • Strong technical accounting skills combined with commercial acumen.
  • Experience in managing cash flow, forecasting, and financial strategy.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to present financial information to non-finance stakeholders.
  • Hands-on approach with the ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of financial systems and ERP software including Sage.
  • Experience in the wholesale sector would be advantageous but not essential.
