Haringey is a fantastic place to live and work – the world in one borough. A place brimming with creativity, personality, radicalism, and community. It is a place where we stand up for each other. A place that is proudly distinctive. We’ll be celebrating all this and more as the “rebel borough” when we are the 2027 London Borough of Culture. Our history champions change-makers and everyday rebels; revelling in our differences, battling discrimination, championing equality, and doing things our own way. Haringey’s people are a huge asset, with knowledge, expertise, and passion. Our staff members embody our organisational values: Caring, Creative, Courageous, Collaborative and Community-focused. These values keep us looking forward, ambitious for the future, and continuously striving to do our very best for all of our residents.
The Parks Projects Officer role at Haringey Council is crucial for efficiently managing a specific programme of parks capital projects from inception to completion. You will play a lead role in tasks such as co-design, consultation and engagement, procuring parks improvement packages, project and budget management, and overseeing works on site to improve parks. This position offers an excellent opportunity to enhance the borough’s parks and greenspaces and build relationships within the local community. As a temporary but integral part of the Parks Development Team, you will work with colleagues from various teams and departments, gaining invaluable exposure to the inner workings of a dynamic organisation. Your efforts will directly contribute to the improvement of seven parks play areas and greenspaces in Tottenham, enabling us to better serve the community. This role provides a platform for personal growth and development, offering the chance to refine your co-design, project and budget management skills and expand your professional horizons in a supportive and collaborative environment.
At Haringey Council we are committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included, and able to be their best at work, and we recognise the benefits of a diverse workforce so welcome applications from all ethnicities and communities so that we continue to make a difference to our residents and community. Our benefits package includes a leave entitlement of 31 days + bank holidays, potential hybrid working opportunities, health and wellbeing support, a generous local government pension scheme and a range of discount schemes across leisure and culture that provide both financial and money-saving discounts.
We are seeking a proactive individual with a strong drive to excel as a Parks Projects Officer, with the ability to implement a specific package of works to set standards within a given timeline. The ideal candidate will have at least two years of experience in a parks development/improvement role, hold a degree in a land-based industry sector (desirable), and demonstrate a track record of successful project management and implementation in a parks setting. They must have impeccable written and verbal communication skills, consistently upholding a standard of professionalism in all interactions. Proficiency in office software, including the Microsoft Office Suite, is essential for efficiently managing tasks and facilitating seamless communication within the team. Additionally, the candidate should possess exceptional organisational skills, adeptly handling multiple tasks and prioritising them for optimal efficiency. Their ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion will be crucial to their success, ensuring the smooth and secure functioning of administrative processes.
Within the Parks & Leisure Service, our Parks Development Team is split into a Zonal Team (which carries out repairs to hard assets, engages with communities, and updates management plans) and a Projects Team (which develops and implements capital projects). We operate as a dynamic group dedicated to improving parks and greenspaces through co-production and co-design. We emphasise teamwork, attention to detail, and effective communication. Together, we play a vital role in delivering the Council’s adopted Parks & Greenspaces Strategy, adhering to its three key aims of improving inclusion, climate change and sustainability, and quality. We take pride in our ability to adapt to evolving challenges and find innovative solutions, making us an indispensable asset to the organisation.
