Our Client: An integrated design and build provider working in the water sector. With over 1,000 staff across eight regional centres, supporting six long-term water sector frameworks and two recently won frameworks, operating both as a sole contractor and in joint ventures and alliances.
The Role: Our client is looking to strengthen their Engineering team with Senior and Principal Design Engineers of all disciplines – Civil, EICA, Mechanical, and Process. Based in the Southwest region at either Bristol or Exeter, you will report directly to the Principal Engineer or Regional Discipline Lead. Your role will be to provide superior quality Engineering Design services to minimize risks and maximize profits on turnkey and engineering services contracts. You will coordinate the design and produce design documents and drawings, considering health and safety requirements, specifications, and standards pertaining to the contract.
Key Responsibilities:
- Produce design layouts that are cost-effective, meet specification requirements, and can be constructed and commissioned effectively.
- Ensure that standard practices are utilized wherever possible.
- Maintain competitiveness.
- Provide estimates and feedback for the Proposals department.
- Work to procedures and processes for the continued development of the department.
- Assist in developing, monitoring, and reviewing procedures and processes.
- Write, update, and monitor efficient procedures to aid the smooth running of the department.
- Ensure coordination of designs with all other disciplines, internal and external, for the benefit of the contract.
- Maintain files and records throughout the duration of contracts.
- Assure customer satisfaction.
- Work within a culture where satisfying the customer is recognized as key to achieving other objectives.
- Assist in supervising and developing staff.
- Ensure a safe working environment for all staff.
- Ensure designs consider environmental issues and fully regard all health and safety requirements.
Experience:
- Experience in technical delivery of complex water industry engineering projects.
- Understanding of the principles of water and sewage treatment.
- Experience in managing/mentoring staff in designing relevant discipline aspects of water and sewage treatment plants.
- Membership of a professional institution (chartered or nearing chartership).
- Relevant discipline Engineering qualification.
- Ability to rationalize designs and produce economic plant layouts.
- Good general knowledge of all aspects of water treatment, including electrical engineering, process engineering, civil engineering, and project management.
- A flexible mind, with the ability to assimilate large amounts of different data simultaneously.
- Ability to present technical proposals clearly, confidently, and convincingly.
- Computer literacy.
- Driving license.
- Experience working on design and construct projects using digital design.
