Mae'r Eglwys yng Nghymru yn ddarparwr addysgol sylweddol sy'n gwasanaethu 27,000 o ddisgyblion mewn 144 o ysgolion (gan gynnwys 5 ysgol uwchradd) mewn ystod eang o gymunedau gwledig a threfol, mawr a bach, Cymraeg a Saesneg eu hiaith.
Mae’r Cyfarwyddwr Addysg yn gyfrifol am arwain ar berthnasoedd a sgyrsiau am ddatblygu polisi gyda Llywodraeth Cymru a rhanddeiliaid allweddol eraill yn y sector ac am sicrhau bod darpariaeth addysg yr Eglwys yng Nghymru yn parhau i ddatblygu o ran ansawdd ac uchelgais ac yn chwarae rhan lawn, hyderus a chynyddol yn nhirwedd addysgol Cymru. Mae’n gweithio'n agos gydag Esgobion yr Eglwys yng Nghymru, gyda Chyfarwyddwyr Addysg yr Esgobaethau ac arweinwyr addysgiadol eraill. Bydd y Cyfarwyddwr Addysg yn aelod o'r tîm Cenhadaeth a Strategaeth, ac yn rheoli dau gynghorydd cenedlaethol arbenigol, a bydd yn cyfrannu at ddarparu cyngor polisi a datblygu gwasanaethau parhaus ar draws ein holl ysgolion.
