The Manufacturing Excellence Engineer (or Process Improvement Engineer) is responsible for leading loss elimination within the Value Stream and is critical to supporting the Operational Excellence pillars to deliver the site’s Compelling Business Need (CBN). They analyse line data to identify and prioritise loss elimination opportunities, lead root cause problem-solving efforts on key chronic losses for their area of responsibility, and coach teams on basic and complex problem-solving skills. The Manufacturing Excellence Engineer is expected to coach and develop the operational teams’ technical understanding of process control and area operation. They should be considered subject matter experts on the process aspects of their equipment.
What are we looking for?
- Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent Level Degree in Engineering, Supply, Business, or technical field of study with at least a couple of years of experience in a TPM/WCM manufacturing environment OR several years of experience in manufacturing at Mars with MSE pillar participation or Problem-Solving experience.
- Preferred: Formal qualification in Six Sigma problem-solving or similar.
What will be your key responsibilities?
- Subject Matter Expertise
- Be the process area specialist for a defined area of expertise, including close collaboration with other sites in the network and teams outside of the value stream e.g., R&D, Technical, and engineering.
- Operational Excellence subject matter expertise and coaching.
- Responsible for skills and training materials in the value stream relating to their subject matter expertise. This includes ownership of creating, updating and approving these materials as needed and delivering training where appropriate to eliminate losses.
- Focused Improvement - Problem Solving
- Solving complex operational problems using Focused Improvement methodology (Lean/Six Sigma) and coaching basic problem-solving initiatives.
- Implementing, leading and coaching projects/task groups aimed at improving the lines results (safety, Quality, Performance, People, Costs).
- Implementation and coaching of improvements through cooperation across functions including Engineering, Process Engineering, Reliability/maintenance, R&D and management of work of external contractors.
- Introducing new initiatives and ways of working to the value stream.
- Creating, updating, and supervising factory documentation/instructions, including generating operational standards (SOPs, 5S, CIL and centerlines).
- Implementation of other activities resulting from the site roadmap or corrective actions and preventative actions.
- Focused Improvement – Loss Analysis
- Data analysis aimed at identifying losses and their sources.
- Implementation/supervision of tools/systems for measuring, controlling and increasing the efficiency of production lines.
- Verify the effectiveness of improvement projects and the benefits resulting from them.
- Operational Governance System
- Active participation and coaching.
- Owning performance KPIs within the system.
