As a senior member of the legal function, you will act as a subject matter expert, advising across the full spectrum of (re)insurance law, commercial contracting, sanctions, and regulatory compliance—working with both UK and international teams.
Tasks will include:
- Advise on global (re)insurance law matters, including wordings, delegation and distribution agreements.
- Provide legal support on product governance, regulatory considerations, and new/emerging risk areas.
- Deliver strategic legal advice that balances commercial objectives with legal and regulatory risks.
- Lead on corporate and commercial contract issues, including intra-group and third-party service agreements.
- Collaborate with compliance on complex regulatory and sanctions-related issues in both underwriting and claims.
- Support UK and international distribution channels, including Lloyd’s Europe and other international offices.
- Liaise with Corporate Underwriting and Wordings teams to ensure adherence to group-wide legal frameworks.
- Develop streamlined legal processes, contract templates, and provide business-wide legal training.
- Advise on high-impact legal exposures, manage external counsel where required, and contribute to London Market initiatives.
- Actively promote conduct best practices, contributing to governance groups such as the PCRSG, UCSC, ExCo and Board.
Requirements:
- Qualified solicitor (England & Wales) with 8+ years PQE, preferably with a mix of private practice and in-house insurance experience.
- Experience within a Lloyd’s Managing Agent and deep knowledge of the London Market is essential.
- Proven expertise in (re)insurance law, corporate contracts, regulatory frameworks, and product governance.
- Excellent drafting, communication, and stakeholder management skills—with the ability to present clearly and persuasively at all levels.
