A leading consultancy specialising in the delivery of sustainability & ESG programmes into the Ministry of Defence, Nuclear, Public Sector, IT and Infrastructure is seeking to appoint a Business Development Director to join its growing business. As a Subject Matter Expert in the field of climate change and sustainability, you will lead, develop, and maximise the contract and consultancy experience for our clients. You will take the position of Leader and Solution Oversight on client projects, supervising and managing consultants, to achieve success for our clients. Further seeking and acting on business opportunities to support the organisation’s growth and strategy.
Key Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
- Identifying and converting new business opportunities
- Wholly responsible for account management and/or large client accounts and their deliverables
- Active leadership and involvement in developing and delivering business growth
- Bid writing, development and responding to tenders
- Engaging with clients, potential clients and partners
- Active involvement in promoting the business through our social media posts (e.g. LinkedIn)
- Develop and present case studies/lessons learnt of current projects and present to clients.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:
- Previous consultancy experience.
- Recent experience of working within the Ministry of Defence, Nuclear, Public Sector, IT or Infrastructure programmes.
- Knowledge and experience in Climate Change, Sustainability and/or Social Value and/or Net Zero Pathways, Circular Economy, Decommissioning, Waste, Environmental Management, Climate Security, Nature-based Solutions and/or Sustainable Technology.
- Experience in defining, managing and delivering complex projects, programmes and portfolios.
- Understanding the classification and protection of classified information.
- Programme / Portfolio office organisation.
- Leadership of Programme assurance reviews on projects of increasing size and complexity and in the delivery of major business and change management solutions.
- Fully conversant with risk and opportunity management including associated methodologies.
- Implementation of benefits management, quality management, and blueprint design and delivery principles.
- Ability to bid manage complex proposals and provide technical assurance of bid costings and scope, leading bid teams and opportunity pursuit teams.
- Ability to lead multi-disciplinary Programme teams, managing performance and delivery.
The suitable candidate already holds or will be expected to achieve Security Clearance.

- Experience in the Defence industry.
- Security Clearance.
- Full Member of APM is desirable.
- APM Practitioner is desirable.
- PMP Professional is desirable.
- PRINCE2 - practitioner is desirable.
- Managing Successful Programmes (MSP) – practitioner.
- Management of Projects (MoP) – practitioner.
- IEMA Environmental Management / Sustainability Qualification(s).
