The Senior Finance Officer role involves providing and continuously improving financial and management accountancy services while supporting management in the effective use of financial resources. It requires clear, confident, polite, and understanding communication with all clients and customers. The position also plays a key part in facilitating better service delivery and supporting the overall operations of the council. Additionally, it includes offering guidance and support to service departments and other council divisions on all financial matters.
Key Responsibilities:
- Listen to service customers and promote the department through the provision of quality services to meet customer needs.
- Keep abreast of specialised knowledge in various financial disciplines to support the work of the Department.
- Maintain the Council’s general ledger and other supporting financial records including computerised databases.
- Ensure that all budgeting and accounting procedures are complied with including the operation of financial controls.
- Prepare, analyse and interpret financial and other information to influence and enable managers to make the correct operational decisions.
- Support the closedown processes of the authority and prepare service accounts.
- Support officers in service departments in the efficient use of resources by providing reliable and timely financial information and support.
- Assist with the observance of financial regulations and advise where appropriate.
- Reconciliation of control accounts.
- Lead and take responsibility for VAT by providing a comprehensive range of VAT activities.
- Undertake more complex financial activities within the Accountancy function.
