The Sun’s multi-award-winning Audience department sits at the heart of our newsroom, with our talented journalists publishing the best coverage of news, sport, TV and showbiz, lifestyle and family value. The team is constantly evolving, driving record traffic across all platforms, growing new audiences, and building engagement and loyalty with our readers.

We are looking for a creative, flexible and highly motivated individual to join our award-winning Audience team. The Newsletter Editor role is a new position at The Sun which combines a variety of editorial and data analysis skills to produce highly engaging newsletters for our loyal readers. On a day-to-day basis you’ll be expected to create tailored newsletters across a broad range of subjects, from hard news and money matters, to showbiz and sport. You will need to be confident curating and editing high-quality content at speed, relying on your digital and analytical skills to lead your content decisions. You will also need to build strong relationships across the newsroom as newsletters support a variety of section deskheads.

Key accountabilities:

  • Producing, editing and writing bespoke newsletters across a wide variety of topics
  • Data analysis to identify trends and opportunities for new newsletter strands and series
  • Collaborate with the editorial team to prioritise stories for targeted newsletters
  • Work to boost audience engagement and drive new subscribers to the product
  • Support sponsored editorial campaigns, ensuring engagement targets are met
  • Support other engagement team tools including polls and SIM module
  • Mix of remote working and office-based

Key skills and experience:

  • Direct experience working on newsletters, an understanding of what makes newsletters unique from other publishing media
  • Ability to use analytics and data reports to influence editorial decisions
  • An understanding of The Sun brand, audience and editorial tone of voice
  • The ability to write concise, accurate and engaging copy
  • Unflappable under pressure
  • Understanding of Sailthru newsletter systems - ideal but not required
  • Exemplary attention to detail - interviewees will be tested
  • A keen eye for design and be driven to increase audience engagement
  • A willingness to take on any task, and initiative and adaptability in order to meet targets
  • Knowledge of the IPSO Code of Conduct, media law and ethical considerations
