We have a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Cost Accountant to join our Cost Accounting Team at Royal London. In this role, you will manage the overall delivery of cost accounting and reporting for specified business units and projects, ensuring stakeholders receive insightful actual cost analysis.
About the role
- Manage and review the delivery of accurate and supported actual cost positions in accordance with the timetabled output for costs within the UK trading business.
- Ensure adherence to accounting standards and review Balance Sheet controls.
- Set objectives and outline expectations for the team regarding timelines, quality of output, and analysis for assigned cost areas (business units or portfolios).
- Oversee the team’s daily operations, ensuring the delivery of quality outputs and conducting reviews and quality assurance of cost accounting processes within regular reporting cycles.
- Assist in producing strategic improvements and efficiency plans for the Cost Accounting Manager and Head of Financial Close.
- Shape, develop, and deliver standalone initiatives and activities as requested by the Cost Accounting Manager.
- Liaise with key Finance and business areas to ensure all aspects of reporting, analysis, processes, and systems are engaged and service levels are achieved.
- Ensure all processes within the area are documented effectively and meet required standards, including FRDCF controls, and update them for any changes.
- Identify opportunities to continuously improve the quality, controls, and operational effectiveness and efficiencies of reported costs.
About you
- Professionally qualified accountant with experience in business control or management accounting.
- Over 5 years of relevant industry experience with a demonstrable track record in similar roles.
- Strong understanding of UK life and pension industry accounting, actuarial aspects, and regulatory environment, with the ability to interpret, apply, and address accounting standards, finance methodologies, and regulatory requirements.
- Good understanding of the financial drivers and methodologies for UK life and pensions organizations.
- Operationally and commercially focused on business drivers and outcomes.
- Experienced in managing a finance team.
- Ability to understand and communicate complex financial matters clearly and precisely.
- Proficient in the use of required financial systems or similar, with advanced Microsoft Office skills.
