We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Head of English and Maths to join our leadership team. This pivotal role involves strategic leadership and management of the English and Maths departments, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning experiences that enable all students to achieve their full potential.
Day-to-day of the role:
- Provide leadership and management, actively promoting the college's ethos and values, and contributing to strategic planning for English and Maths.
- Ensure excellence in teaching and learning for English and Maths provision, championing best practice and innovation.
- Lead the timetabling process for English and Maths across the college to maximise efficient staff deployment and resource use, focusing on optimal learning experiences.
- Manage effective cover arrangements to maintain quality provision and continuity in learning.
- Collaborate with Directors of Curriculum to maintain a relentless focus on English and Maths, ensuring appropriate enrolment and attendance for successful learner outcomes.
- Oversee assessment and tracking of learner progress, implementing effective interventions for at-risk learners.
- Lead quality assurance activities for GCSE and Functional Skills in English and Maths, meeting all awarding body requirements.
- Develop and implement professional development programs for English and Maths teachers to enhance delivery.
- Update the Governing Body on progress related to English and Maths, engaging in informed discussions at committee meetings.
- Commit to the college's safeguarding policies, promoting a safe environment for all learners.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Degree or equivalent in English or Maths, with a PGCE or equivalent teaching qualification.
- Minimum Level 2 qualification in English and Maths.
- Extensive experience in a senior management role within Further Education, specifically managing English and Maths, with a proven track record of improving student outcomes.
- In-depth knowledge of GCSE and Functional Skills English and Maths qualifications, curriculum, assessment procedures, and awarding body requirements.
- Outstanding teaching and learning skills with a strong grasp of technologies that enhance educational delivery.
- Excellent leadership skills with experience in managing change effectively.
- Familiarity with current educational developments and Ofsted requirements.
