Commercial Manager | Derby - fully on-site | 6 month contract | £550 inside IR35

Pigment Consulting is a bold and disruptive digitally-enabled transformation consultancy delivering impactful change across Central Government & Defence. Purpose-built to collaborate, we partner with other consultancies to provide blended one-team solutions to solve complex change across the public sector.

Due to continued success in our defence portfolio, we are currently expanding our SC-Cleared Commercial capability. Please note that due to the sensitive nature of our program, this is a fully on-site position. Our Consultant must have active and valid SC Clearance and be a Sole UK National.

This role blends traditional commercial responsibilities (such as contracting, pricing, and supplier engagement) with data-driven insight to shape commercial strategy, drive value, and manage risk.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead commercial activities across procurement, contracting, pricing, and supplier engagement, ensuring alignment with programme objectives.
  • Use data to shape and inform commercial strategies – from forecasting and cost modelling to supplier performance analysis and scenario planning.
  • Develop and interpret predictive models to support investment decisions, risk mitigation, and cost optimisation.
  • Drive value-for-money outcomes using data-led insights and performance indicators.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineering, programme delivery, and finance to ensure commercial decisions are well-informed and data-backed.
Ideal Background & Experience:
  • Experience in commercial roles within defence, aerospace, nuclear, or similarly complex regulated environments.
  • Strong understanding of public procurement processes.
  • Proven experience using data analytics to drive commercial outcomes.
  • Familiarity with tools such as Excel (advanced), Power BI, SQL, Python, or similar for modelling and analysis.
  • Skilled in developing and interpreting cost models, pricing strategies, and commercial performance dashboards.
