We are looking for a talented Video Editor to join our growing team at Fern and Simplicissimus with a focus on crafting visually engaging and editorially sharp explainer videos, essays, and documentaries. Simpli and Fern are committed to producing high-quality journalistic content that informs, inspires, and captivates audiences.
As a Video Editor, you will be responsible for transforming scripts and voice-overs into compelling video stories, working across various formats and styles. You’ll collaborate closely with writers, producers, and designers to bring ambitious editorial projects to life. This is a creative, hands-on role for someone with a strong sense of visual storytelling, deep technical skills, and a passion for journalistic content. The role will be fully remote and will be on a freelance basis. Work is expected to be available very often.
Tasks- Edit and assemble high-quality video content from raw material
- Cut and align voice-over recordings with visuals
- Search, source, and curate relevant video footage and imagery
- Apply color correction/grading to interviews, animations, and b-roll
- Design and mix sound elements for polished audio quality
- Incorporate sources and citations clearly and effectively (Optional)
- Compose original music or adapt stock music creatively
- Work closely with writers, producers, and creative leads to align visuals with narrative goals
- Contribute creative ideas for improving pacing, tone, and structure
- Maintain consistency in visual style, tone, and branding across projects
- Professional proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud, especially Premiere Pro and Audition.
- Strong aesthetic sensibility and visual storytelling instincts.
- 3+ years of relevant professional experience (ideally in explainers, video essays, or documentaries)
- Experience with sound design, color grading/correction, and motion graphics.
- Ability to work independently, reliably, and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Enthusiastic about visual content and journalistic storytelling.
- Intermediate German language skills.
