Role Overview

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Data Operations Manager to oversee the integrity, security, and performance of our critical business databases. This role is pivotal in ensuring seamless data operations, optimising database infrastructure, and supporting strategic data initiatives. The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise in database management, a keen eye for security, and the ability to collaborate across teams to drive efficiency and innovation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Database Management & Performance: Administer, maintain, and optimise PostgreSQL and MongoDB databases. Monitor performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement enhancements. Ensure high availability, scalability, and reliability of database systems.
  • Security & Compliance: Develop and enforce robust database security policies. Manage access controls, audit logs, and data protection measures. Ensure compliance with industry regulations and internal governance standards.
  • Data Migration & Integration: Lead data migration projects from legacy systems to modern platforms. Collaborate with external partners to ensure accurate, secure data transfers.
  • Backup, Recovery & Disaster Preparedness: Design and test backup strategies to safeguard critical business data. Implement disaster recovery protocols to minimise downtime.
  • Optimisation & Development: Fine-tune database queries, indexing, and configurations for peak performance. Advise on database architecture and future-proofing strategies. Support the development of data analytics and reporting solutions.
  • Team Collaboration & Support: Work closely with IT, development, and business teams to align data strategies. Provide training and guidance on best practices for database usage. Document processes, configurations, and changes for transparency.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience in database administration (PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or similar).
  • Strong knowledge of database security, performance tuning, and backup/recovery.
  • Experience leading data migration projects and working with third-party vendors.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based database solutions (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., PostgreSQL Professional, MongoDB Certified DBA).
