Job Details
- Hours: Full time, 37.5 per week, Monday - Friday.
- Location: Hybrid remote working, with 3 days a week in our VHQ, Crawley based on operational requirements.
- Contract: Permanent.

In a nutshell
The Technical Product Owner covers a wide remit across the tour operations and airline functions, supporting the backlog for the Holidays Systems reservation platform and feeding into other backlogs as appropriate across the Digital Development and Delivery teams. The areas covered by this role include Aviation, Ground Product and other product sectors as well as general tour operator functions. This involves working with business and technical stakeholders to:
- Identify, write and refine new requirements and changes to existing requirements, assessing their value and size as well as their impact on operational robustness.
- Create and deliver a single prioritised backlog of work items which balances the needs of all stakeholders whilst maximising returns on investment.
- Work with the delivery teams, including external suppliers, to deliver this backlog in an incremental fashion using agile development methods.
- Support and influence stakeholders through decision making and governance forums, for example: resolving backlog conflicts, delivering progress updates, resolving scheduling conflicts, creating funding requests.
- Create a continuous optimisation culture which effects change in both systems and processes.
Day to day
- Create and manage a transparent, prioritized, estimated single backlog of user stories / epics that will be delivered in development sprints.
- Run regular story collection and refinement sessions with stakeholders and delivery teams.
- Write detailed stories for development, supporting business case creation and updates clearly identifying the part each plays in supporting business strategy and how each fits into an overarching business architecture and customer experience framework.
- Co-present cases for approval with stakeholders and collaborate with other product owners in different delivery groups to maintain a balanced portfolio of work.
- Ensure that solutions delivered do not compromise robustness and that sufficient stories are included in the backlog to improve robustness and enhance delivery capability.
- Provide insight and KPIs for the product areas which fall under the area covered by the role, including a detailed understanding and assessment of failures as well as successes.
- Ensure the services and applications are sufficiently monitored with robust and reliable alerting in place, and clear support procedures identified and well understood by all stakeholders and team members.
- Work with the senior digital team to create a forward plan for delivery that marries technology enhancements with business plans.
- Contribute to process and technical improvements in the digital and business teams.
About you
- Demonstrable experience of working in a software development environment that uses agile methodologies ideally using continuous delivery / deployment.
- Extensive Travel and/or Airline industry experience working at level reporting to director or director direct report.
- Ideally scheduled air tour operating experience in an environment using Amadeus or another GDS such as Travelport or Sabre.
- Computing degree or equivalent numeric discipline or equivalent experience in a technical role with significant project experience in systems integration at scale using XML and / or REST style interfaces over complex business interactions.
- Demonstrable capability to communicate with technical and non-technical staff to discuss and investigate problems and requirements.
- Experience of performance and scalability testing and operational monitoring and fault diagnosis.
- A solid understanding of Java constructs and cloud-based architectural principles.
