Join the Application Support team who are responsible for managing the in-house derivatives trading system. The Trading Application Support Engineer will be an addition to an expanding team who manage all development, maintenance and support of Mako's technical systems. The team works in a dynamic environment whilst providing both 1st and 2nd level support to the trading floor, investigating issues, writing scripts and implementing processes to improve the front office system.

What you’ll be involved in:

  • Ensuring the smooth running of Mako's production systems.
  • Updating and configuring trading applications.
  • Maintaining and tuning Mako's trading system and hardware to obtain optimal performance.
  • Identifying and reporting bugs in the system and taking responsibility for the resolution cycle.
  • Investigating new/existing reported issues, attempting to understand and reproduce them to diagnose and find acceptable solutions or workarounds.
  • Providing L1 and L2 production support and technical support to the trading floor.
  • Developing tools to automate the monitoring/analysis of system performance and support tasks.
  • Developing processes and tools to manage application configuration, code deployment and testing.

What we need from you:

  • Coding ability (e.g. C++, Python, Matlab, Java, etc.)
  • Minimum 2.1 (or equivalent) undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering or other STEM related subject.
  • A self-motivated problem solver and intellectually curious.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced and dynamic environment.
  • Ability to multitask and work well under pressure.
  • Accountable and have a high level of ownership.
  • Excellent communication skills and a team player.
  • A passion to continuously learn new technologies and skills.

  • Previous experience in software development, DevOps or systems administration is highly advantageous.

  • Experience working in a Linux/Unix environment, e.g. common command line tools, Bash scripting, etc.
  • Experience in production support and troubleshooting/configuring Linux systems.
  • Good knowledge of network protocols/concepts.
  • Experience in application and system monitoring, e.g. Graylog, Elasticsearch, Grafana, etc.
  • Both C++ and Python coding ability.
  • Working knowledge of databases and SQL.
  • Knowledge of derivatives products.
  • Jira or other ticket management software.
