THE TEAM
At JSM Group, we put Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality (SHEQ) at the core of our operations. Our Communications division is rapidly growing, and we are looking for a SHEQ Adviser - Communications to support our site-based teams in ensuring compliance, driving best practices, and fostering a strong SHEQ culture.
SCOPE OF ROLE
As the SHEQ Adviser - Communications, you will act as the primary point of contact for SHEQ-related matters across operational sites in London and the Home Counties. You will provide expert guidance, conduct audits, and support the SHEQ Manager - Communications in rolling out SHEQ plans and improvement projects. This role will require occasional weekend and night work, ensuring continuous support for safety, compliance, and environmental standards.
HOW YOU'LL SUCCEED
- Providing professional SHEQ guidance to site teams, contractors, and clients
- Ensuring compliance with ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001 standards
- Conducting regular audits and inspections to assess SHEQ performance
- Supporting the investigation of accidents and incidents, identifying root causes and implementing preventative actions
- Promoting proactive safety reporting, including near misses, hazards, and observations
- Ensuring project documentation (CPPs, QMPs, Risk Registers, Method Statements) is up to date
- Monitoring welfare facilities on sites to ensure they meet required standards
- Championing SHEQ culture, setting an example with leadership and best practices
- Assisting in maintaining the Integrated Management System and supporting SHEQ digitalisation
WHAT IT TAKES
- 3+ years’ experience in a SHEQ advisory role within utilities or engineering (preferably in communications/fibre)
- Working knowledge of NRSWA, HSG47, ISO 14001 & 45001
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Good analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Organisational skills and strong attention to detail
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
Essential Qualifications:
- Minimum NEBOSH Certificate (Diploma or Level 6/7 qualification preferred)
- Professional accreditation (IOSH Chartered Membership preferred)
- EUSR or CSCS Card
- Knowledge of Behavioural Based Safety or Human Factors
