The role of the Biodiversity Net Gain Advisory Team is to support development projects by providing ecological advice on how to deliver Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) in line with national policy. We do this through early engagement with developers, designing appropriate mitigation measures and monitoring their delivery on-site. This enables us to achieve overall biodiversity gain despite the impacts of development.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert ecological advice to developers at all stages of project planning and implementation.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders including local authorities, landowners, consultants, NGOs and other statutory bodies.
  • Develop BNG strategies for large scale developments, including multiple sites.
  • Manage complex schemes requiring detailed habitat modelling, species population surveys, monitoring and management plans.
  • Assess ecological constraints, identify opportunities for enhancement and recommend effective mitigation measures.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and policies including the Biodiversity Metric, BS42020 and Natural Capital Approach.
  • Monitor and report on the delivery of BNG commitments.

Qualifications:

  • Experience of working as an Ecologist within a consultancy or local authority setting.
  • Degree level education in a relevant subject such as biology, ecology, environmental science or conservation.
  • Chartered membership of CIEEM or equivalent professional body is desirable but not essential.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly and concisely to non-technical audiences.
  • Strong IT literacy including proficiency in Microsoft Office software.
  • A full driving licence is required for this role.
