The Head of eCommerce Trading role is responsible for driving the commercial success of our online store. This role involves managing daily trading performance, optimising the user experience, and ensuring revenue growth through effective merchandising, promotional strategies, and data-driven decision-making. The role works closely with marketing, operations, content, and development teams to enhance the customer journey and maximise conversion rates.
Trading & Performance Analysis- Manage the P&L of the e-commerce store, ensuring revenue and margin targets are met through appropriate KPI management and performance improvement measures.
- Complete regular sales and performance forecasts, reporting this back to the wider business.
- Track and analyse website performance, sales trends, and key metrics (e.g., conversion rates, AOV, traffic, and bounce rates).
- Send weekly & monthly reports on online revenue performance, taking measures to improve digital sales performance.
- Use analytics to identify opportunities for growth, optimise product positioning through effective visual merchandising, and improve on-site merchandising.
- Prepare and present trading reports with insights and recommendations for senior management.
- Manage and liaise with our paid media agencies to coordinate budgets, targets and performance improvements on a consistent basis.
- Work within profitability and ROAS targets.
- Oversee the activity and merchandising of the website, assuring things like product descriptions, imagery and product information are correct.
- Ensure optimal product categorisation, cross-selling, and upselling opportunities, implementing and managing tools as necessary.
- Work with the buying and merchandising teams to plan product launches and ensure timely availability.
- Ensuring new products are visually merchandised appropriately and have sufficient marketing support behind them to drive sales.
- Plan and execute seasonal promotions, sales events, and marketing campaigns.
- Collaborate with marketing teams to drive traffic through SEO, PPC, email, and social media.
- Work with the Merchandising team to ensure pricing is accurate and competitive, including discount positioning.
- Communicate and manage our external paid media agencies to ensure they have the appropriate budget, targets and information to hit our sales targets.
- Work closely with the brand team to ensure campaigns are appropriate and on-brand, enhancing the overall position of the brand.
- Ensure a seamless and user-friendly shopping experience, optimising the site’s layout, navigation, and checkout process.
- Collaborate with UX designers to A/B test and implement changes that increase our conversion rate.
- Identify and resolve any pain points or friction points in the user journey.
- Manage a team of digital executives, appropriately guiding their development and workload.
- Work cross-functionally with tech, buying/merchandising, logistics, customer service, and creative teams to ensure smooth operations.
- Act as the point of contact for our paid media and CRM agencies.
- Take the lead on coordinating and driving forward our e-commerce sale performance.
- Education: Degree in Business, Marketing, E-commerce, or a related field.
- Experience: 3-5+ years of experience in e-commerce, trading, or a similar role.
- Analytical Skills: Strong data analysis and reporting skills to inform trading decisions.
- Project Management: Ability to plan and execute multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Leadership: Proven experience managing teams and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.
- Commercial Acumen: Deep understanding of online retailing, profit margins, and consumer buying behaviour.
