The Energy Market Analyst will join the EMEA Solutions team, focusing on energy system planning and market modelling within the Power Systems team. The role works closely with key stakeholders, including System Operators, Transmission Operators, Regulators, and other governmental organizations.
As a subject matter expert in European energy markets, the ideal candidate will have deep knowledge in energy market economics, familiarity with wholesale market trends, and an understanding of how market models support decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead workshops to gather customer requirements and design custom modelling approaches using PLEXOS software.
- Guide customers in analyzing models and aligning outcomes with expectations.
- Perform model calibration and offer recommendations to modify assumptions as necessary.
- Provide consultation on utilizing PLEXOS for strategic decision-making and process change.
- Develop and implement test plans, resolve product issues, and train clients on PLEXOS software.
- Business Development & Thought Leadership:
- Create Proof of Concept studies to demonstrate the value of Energy Exemplar’s solutions.
- Support the sales team by understanding customer challenges and proposing tailored solutions.
- Deliver technical presentations and product demos.
- Collaborate with product management to provide feedback on market requirements and product enhancements.
- Research and present on emerging trends and developments in EMEA energy markets, offering thought leadership in the industry.
- Use fundamental market modelling tools to forecast energy prices and cross-border flows across various time horizons.
- Apply market models for pre-trade decisions and portfolio optimization (e.g., physical energy trading, prop trading).
- Utilize models to understand Value at Risk and develop medium-term hedging strategies.
- Optimize strategy for secondary markets, such as Balancing Markets and Ancillary Services.
- Evaluate the impact of disruptive technologies on long-term energy markets.
- Industry Knowledge:
- Familiarity with energy trading operations, risk management, and optimization tools (e.g., PLEXOS, BID3, Antaras).
- Strong understanding of energy market economics, supply and demand modelling, and electrical system operations.
- Education & Experience:
- A tertiary degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Economics, Operations Research, or a similar field.
- 3-4 years of experience in energy markets with a strong understanding of market fundamentals, energy systems operation, and/or engineering.
- Experience with optimization tools (e.g., PLEXOS, BID3, PROMOD).
- Strong analytical and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly.
- Proficiency in corporate productivity tools (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to manage competing priorities, work independently, and thrive in a dynamic environment.
- A desire for career advancement and a positive, results-oriented mindset.
Desired (but not required):
- Experience with ENTSO-E working groups, particularly related to TYNDP or ERAA studies.
