Location: We have an opportunity for an Operational Team Leader to join our customer field Service Team at Yorkshire Water and be a part of helping Yorkshire Water to provide the best service to our customers. The role will cover the York and Hull area, base will be determined by home location. There is an expectation that most of your time will be spent working from the operational depot where the team operates from.
Work type: Permanent. Our assets are operational 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The role is working 37 hours per week, providing 07:00 to 20:00 on-site cover working weekends on a one in seven rota.

Customer Field Services are a key part of how we plan to meet the changing expectations of customers and regulators. The Operational Team Leader plays a crucial role in managing and leading a team of front-line field technicians in a specific geographical area to deliver "first time fix" solutions to customers and environmental problems. The Operational Team Leader is responsible for ensuring the efficient operation of the wastewater network, preventing failures, and improving customer service.
The role involves managing customer issues, driving performance management, coaching resources, ensuring health and safety standards are met, and working closely with stakeholders to achieve regulatory targets and company goals. Overall, the Operational Team Leader is responsible for delivering high-quality solutions, meeting customer and environmental needs, and maintaining compliance with internal SLAs, regulatory requirements, and budget targets.
Where you fit in: As our Operational Team Leader you will be responsible for managing and leading a team to ensure high performance, compliance with safety policies, and effective customer service delivery. You will be tasked with on-site management of field resources, coaching and feedback to ensure understanding of procedures and behaviour, and driving excellent standards in health, safety, and operational performance. Additionally, you will be responsible for managing commercial vehicles, resolving customer issues on the sewerage network, and implementing cyclical maintenance programs to support flooding and pollution prevention. You will also conduct procedural audits, manage operational incidents, and ensure all required documentation is completed within SLAs and have line management responsibilities, work closely with customer service teams, and build relationships with key stakeholders.
What skills & qualifications you will need: The successful candidate will be a passionate customer focused and experienced people leader who can drive the team to maximum productivity and efficiency whilst instilling a customer and environment work ethic to achieve maximum customer satisfaction and contribute to the company's service targets. You will have experience of Health and Safety Management processes and procedures and be H&S trained, ideally IOSH qualified. You will have the ability to drive and embed key performance measures on pollution and flooding and be able to manage and lead change initiatives out in the field. You will have rigorous attention to detail and be a good communicator, with excellent influencing and negotiation skills, whilst also having the ability to build and maintain a network of working relationships both internally and externally. You will have experience of incident management and crisis response, with the ability to identify and solve issues in a timely and effective manner, to ensure that network activity doesn’t have an adverse impact on network stability or customer service. You will be proficient in the use of IT and have in-depth knowledge of Microsoft applications. Travel is required as part of this role, therefore a full valid UK driving licence is required (No more than 6 points). Yorkshire Water is a 24/7 Operation; therefore, flexibility is a requirement of this role. Once fully trained, you will be required to participate in an out of hours stand-by rota.
You will also benefit from having: Understanding of sewer networks, common failure modes and solutions. Although, your technical experience may lie within the wider wastewater services, broader industries, and utilities. Experience and knowledge of regulatory measures, particularly Pollutions, Internal Flooding, External Flooding, Stability and Reliability SIM and associated response times. Technical Knowledge - understands the wastewater network and how it operates. Expert knowledge of WWS network assets. Project management experience. Knowledge of company Quality systems and CRSA.
