Engineering Manager required for my client, a global leader in the design and manufacture of high value capital equipment for a range of sectors and are the European division of a group that has sales in excess of $1 Billion Dollars worldwide. You will be responsible for leading and overseeing the engineering / technical operations and strategy. You will drive innovation, ensuring technical excellence, and leading a team of skilled professionals to deliver complex projects in line with the company's goals and objectives. The role has ultimate responsibility for all electrical and mechanical designs. This is an excellent opportunity with a progression pathway into an Engineering Director role within a short space of time.
Responsibilities of the Engineering Manager:
- Develop and implement the engineering / technical vision and strategy in alignment with the company's overall objectives.
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and direction to a team of electrical and mechanical engineers (including engaging them in forward thinking of designs and cost reduction initiatives).
- Oversee the execution of projects / contracts, ensuring they meet quality, budget, and schedule requirements.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and technical excellence.
- Engage with clients, stakeholders, and partners to understand their needs and ensure successful project delivery.
- Stay updated with industry trends, advancements, and best practices to maintain the company's competitive edge and ensure company standards library is maintained.
- Review and understand competitor technology.
- Manage technical risks, issues, and challenges proactively and effectively.
- Health and Safety responsibility to ensure full compliance with all relevant (current and future) requirements / legislation.
Specific Engineering functions of the Engineering Manager:
- Harmonic analysis at medium voltage, calculating expected voltage distortion and requirements for additional filtering if necessary to meet local regulations.
- Electrical calculations required to ensure competent design of the equipment.
- Advising on medium voltage circuit breaker settings ensuring adequate discrimination with downstream transformer inrush currents and with upstream circuit breakers.
- Issue “repeat” equipment for main contracts or spares.
- Basic electrical engineering, creating “marked up” drawings for others to complete, along with associated BOMs.
- Pre sales evaluation of customer requirements to choose most economic equipment.
Qualifications and Experience of the Engineering Manager:
- Degree or equivalent in engineering (or a related field).
- Extensive experience in a senior technical leadership role, preferably within the engineering or manufacturing industry.
- Proven track record of successfully managing multiple contracts of varying size and complexity.
- Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with customers and all internal stakeholders.
- Deep understanding of technical principles, methodologies, and best practices.
- Commitment to fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.
- Comprehensive knowledge of power electronic converters and principles, electronic control systems and familiarity with current UK design standards and working practices.
